The annual Paphos Aphrodite Festival is internationally famous for quality musical events brought to the Cyprus public. This year it welcomes you with yet another outstanding performance given by the National Opera of Sofia.
On September 4, 5 and 6
at the Paphos Medieval Castle you can see popular opera "Lakme", written by French composer Leo Delibes'.
Paphos Mayor Savvas Vergas hosted a press conference, which was attended by Minister of Education Andreas Demetriou, CTO Chairman Panos Englezos, the Cultural Attaché of the Bulgarian Embassy Antonia Velena and other supporters and sponsor of the Festival.
“The Festival is a major international event and a very important one for Cyprus”, said Vergas.
“Our event is recognised internationally as one that promotes our cultural standard, involving people whose vision it is to promote culture, with the substantial support of the state and other public organisations and of course the public”, he stated.
Lakmé is an opera in three acts by Léo Delibes to a French libretto by Edmond Gondinet and Philippe Gille, based on the 1880 novel Rarahu ou Le Mariage de Loti by Pierre Loti. It is considered one of the most exotic operas ever written and its prelude is supposedly one of the most sensual.
"The Flower Duet" is considered among the most popular pieces. It has been widely used in cinematograph as well as media and advertising. It is even used in British Airways advertisement.
